Traffic in Indonesia

Traffic is one major problem in Indonesia. There are many causes that traffic happens. First is the motorcycle. Since many local Indonesians cannot afford to buy a car, they choose to buy motorcycle because it is cheaper than buying a car. While driving, motorcycles tend to go between cars which cars may have to concede the way. Also, while you are waiting for traffic lights, motorcycles go in front and when the light turns green, motorcycles go first then the car which cars have to wait more. Second is the width of the roads. The width of the roads is quite short compare to other countries’ and drivers in Indonesia want to go fast without concession which causes traffic. The last reason why traffic causes is buses in Indonesia. Each bus has a helper to make the bus go faster. They usually get out of the bus and help the bus to go faster which the cars behind the bus have to stop which creates traffic. I think there is no way to reduce the traffic because the government cannot force people to buy a car and it will create another problem which is pollution. Making roads widely takes time and while constructing the roads, traffic will be more serious. Having no helpers for the bus will not work because it means that the buses should change. I hope government should do something for traffic for the people who are suffering sitting in a car for a long time.

  1. Really, there is nothing we can do to solve this issue? We are just going to have complete grid-lock one day and we'll have to leave our cars behind? What if we taxed cars heavily or only allowed cars with even numbered license plates to drive one day and odd plates another?
