Flooding in Jakarta

Have you ever been to Jakarta during monsoon season? Or when it rained? I’m wondering if you have ever seen these kinds of pictures. These pictures show how terrible heavy rain in Jakarta is. Not only should you complain about the heavy rain but also the construction of roads in Jakarta. When it rains there should be street drains where the water goes out. Unfortunately, as you can see these pictures, the water stays there and it will take a lot of time for water to be out. Because of the flooding, it gives bad effects. First, the traffic would be terrible. Drivers should be careful of water when they pass by the water. To add, because drivers should be careful about water going into exhaust pipes, drivers have to slow down. Furthermore, local people, who don’t live in an apartment, are impacted badly when there are heavy rains because they usually enter to their houses and destroy everything which people suffer from. Unhappily, local people do not have enough money to remodel the house. Solutions are government should develop construction of roads and donate money for people who lost money and provide temporary houses.

  1. I liked your view on the flooding in Jakarta, its interesting for other people who don't live here and don't know about the terrible floods here and what kind of horrible traffic it causes. You might also want to look at its effect on the local people too.

  2. Pretty amazing what you saw in that video the other day. Can you believe that Jakarta is sinking by 6 cm. a year? What do you think the situation here will be in 20 years? Will they have to build a massive flood wall out at sea?

  3. I agree that flooding is one of the most serious problems of Jakarta these days. I like that you mentioned several disadvantages and negative impacts that are caused by flooding in Jakarta. However, you could also include what factor causes flooding in more depth (not just road constructions (e.g. trash blocking the sewage systems that makes impossible for water to escape from the road))
